The Materials Testing Institute University of Stuttgart is managed by a board of directors. It consists of two scientific directors and two deputy scientific directors.
The directors are in personal union heads of the institutes "Materials in Civil Engineering" (IWB) and "Materials Testing, Materials Science and Strength of Materials" (IMWF), which are assigned to the faculties of "Civil and Environmental Engineering" and "Energy, Process and Biotechnology", respectively.
